Tell Your Story is a Department of Veterans’ Affairs funded project created to provide a safe, respectful space for veterans, their families, and community members to share lived experiences.
Through recorded conversations, the project captures stories of service, transition, identity, health, connection, and life beyond uniform. These stories aim to build understanding, reduce stigma, and strengthen connection across the veteran community and the services that support them.
Sharing a story can take many forms. Whether you’re a veteran, a family member, or part of a community or service organisation, there are several ways to be involved.
Express interest
Get in touch to let us know you’d like to share a story or nominate someone whose experience may help others.
Have a conversation
We’ll talk through what sharing looks like, consent, and any support you may need before recording.
Share at your pace
Stories are recorded in a respectful, flexible way — you choose what you’re comfortable sharing.
Participation is always voluntary, and support options are available if conversations bring up difficult topics.
Acknowledgement & Support
Tell Your Story is proudly supported by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs through the Veterans’ Wellbeing Grants Program.
The project recognises that sharing lived experiences may raise sensitive or challenging topics. Participants are encouraged to engage at their own pace and seek support if needed.
If you or someone you know needs support, services such as Open Arms – Veterans & Families Counselling (1800 011 046) are available.
